2025, the year to grow, attract talent and drive technology forward
Spain's leading law firms foresee a take-off in M&A and an upturn in banking, energy and labour law.
The managing partners of the 27 leading law firms in terms of turnover in Spain, interviewed by the newspaper Cinco Días , are optimistic and confident that 2025 will be a year of growth. Maintaining excellence in client service, even in an environment marked by geopolitical and economic instability, continues to be the priority objective of these firms at the start of this new year. To achieve this, they are addressing the main challenges of the legal sector as opportunities: attracting and retaining the best talent, boosting the incorporation of technology - especially artificial intelligence - to optimise processes, and offering clients not only in-depth technical knowledge, but also a comprehensive understanding of their sector and business, in order to anticipate possible scenarios.
The leaders of these large law firms foresee that the areas of greatest growth in 2025 will be tax, M&A, private equity, litigation, arbitration and labour. In terms of economic sectors, energy, telecommunications and banking stand out as the most dynamic in terms of transactions.
Joan Roca, executive chairman and managing partner of RocaJunyent, says: ‘Artificial intelligence and data analytics will play a key role in the provision of legal services. Spain's favourable economic situation will continue to attract international business to the best positioned firms. The positive outlook in the financial markets could translate into an increase in IPOs by 2025. In addition, we face important challenges internationally, not so much in opening new offices as in strengthening the RocaJunyent brand as an independent firm outside our borders. We expect a significant upturn in areas such as insolvency and restructuring, M&A, real estate and tourism. In terms of turnover, the corporate and tax areas will continue to lead, with a strong momentum in litigation and labour law.
