ESADE presents the fifth volume of the ESADE Law Review with a debate on the housing crisis

14/03/2025

The presentation of the fifth volume of the legal journal, sponsored by RocaJunyent, took place at the Museu d'Història de Catalunya.

This latest edition served to establish a partnership with the Georgetown Journal of International Law and to promote a Law Review project at UIC.

ESADE Law Review (ELR) is a publication edited by students under the supervision of lawyers from the country’s leading law firms, thereby fostering excellence in legal practice and nurturing young talent.

Barcelona, 13 March 2025. ESADE presented the fifth volume of ESADE Law Review, sponsored by RocaJunyent, during a session dedicated to addressing the legal challenges surrounding access to housing in Barcelona. The publication, edited by students and mentored by lawyers from Spain’s top law firms, bridges the gap between academia and practice, promoting young talent within the legal field.

During the presentation of the fifth volume of ESADE Law Review, a round table titled "Legal Proposals to Address the Housing Crisis in Barcelona" was held, featuring contributions from Jorge Castiñeira, Professor of Civil Law and Dean of Esade Law School; Griselda Fernández, Director of the Parc Públic d’Habitatge at the Barcelona City Council; Manolo Fages, Head of Public Policies at CCOO Catalunya; and Roger Pla, Partner in RocaJunyent's Real Estate Law department.

The debate thoroughly examined the structural, economic, and regulatory factors complicating housing access in Barcelona. Discussions focused on the root causes of the housing crisis, including the 2008 financial crisis and its impact on the real estate market. Various legislative proposals and measures were also explored, such as price caps in high-demand areas and potential reforms to strengthen the current regulatory framework. The panel’s diverse viewpoints fostered a rich, dynamic discussion. The event provided a multidisciplinary forum where attendees reflected on challenges and possible solutions to this issue from various perspectives.

Held at the Museu d'Història de Catalunya, the event brought together ELR’s editors and reviewers, members of ESADE’s academic community, representatives from the country’s leading law firms, and students from multiple universities. This volume featured two key collaborations: RocaJunyent as its official sponsor and efforts to support a Law Review project at UIC alongside establishing a partnership with the Georgetown Journal of International Law.

Fifth Volume of ESADE Law Review

The ESADE Law Review, founded to encourage legal analysis and academic debate on issues of legal significance, has launched Volume 5 under the theme "Values and Justice: A Commitment to the Law." The volume centres on the analysis of various social issues and their treatment from a legal perspective, ranging from the housing crisis in Catalonia to the impact of greenwashing on unfair competition, alongside environmental protection, international transactions, and the evolution of collective actions. Through its publications and events, which have garnered strong support from the sector, the journal aims to create platforms for reflection and contribute to the development of critical thinking within the legal community. As such, Esade Law Review continues to establish itself as a reference point for legal analysis and is already preparing the publication of Volume 6.
