
Glovo faces the Penal Code

Can alleged labour abuse lead to the imprisonment of business leaders? This question has been raised in recent weeks in the case of the delivery drivers known as riders.
Alberto Novoa, labour partner at RocaJunyent, points out in this article in El País that "The simple fact of being investigated for a possible offence, regardless of whether or not the employer is subsequently convicted, already causes reputational damage, in many cases irreparable". And this, he adds, "can lead to workers using criminal proceedings as a means of pressure, in order to obtain a more beneficial economic agreement than they could obtain in the workplace".
