Miquel Roca Junyent, doctor honoris causa by the Universitat Abat Oliba CEU
On October 2nd, the Universitat Abat Oliba CEU conferred an Honorary Doctorate on the Honorary President of RocaJunyent, Miquel Roca Junyent. At the same ceremony, the university also conferred an Honorary Doctorate on José Luis Bonet Ferrer, President of Freixenet and the Spanish Chamber of Commerce. This solemn act took place within the framework of the commemoration of fifty years of operation of the university institution, which added a special significance to the occasion.
The distinction of Doctor Honoris Causa awarded to Roca Junyent not only recognises his outstanding career in the legal field, but also his fundamental contribution to the development of democratic Spain as we know it today. As honorary president of the university, his career has been marked by a constant commitment to constitutional values, the rule of law and social progress.
During the ceremony, Carlos Pérez del Valle, Professor of Criminal Law at the Universitat Abat Oliba CEU, had the honour of delivering the laudatio of Miquel Roca Junyent. In his speech, Pérez del Valle ranked not only the jurist's influence on the drafting of the 1978 Constitution, but also his tireless dedication to public service and his role as a reference in constitutional law. He underlined how Roca Junyent's vision, rooted in dialogue and consensus, was key at crucial moments in Spain's history.
The recognition of Miquel Roca Junyent also takes on greater relevance as it is part of the fifty-year history of the Universitat Abat Oliba CEU. The awarding of this honorary degree, the highest academic honour a university can bestow, is a token of gratitude and admiration for the man who has been a pillar in the promotion of law and politics in Spain.
The same ceremony also served to honour José Luis Bonet Ferrer. Professor of Applied Economics, Juan Corona, was in charge of the laudatio for Bonet, highlighting his extraordinary contribution to the business world and his influence on the national economy.
This dual investiture was not only a celebration of two exemplary careers, but also a reaffirmation of the role of the Universitat Abat Oliba CEU as a space for training, dialogue and recognition of those who, like Miquel Roca Junyent, have dedicated their lives to improving society through Law and Politics.
