Law firms, in front of the 4.0 revolution

05/01/2021

Expansión Jurídico collects the opinion of Xavier Costa, partner of the M&A and Commercial Department of Roca Junyent, on how the pandemic has accelerated the digital transformation of law firms.

"We believe that 'big data' will be crucial for lawyers because it is the common element without which the rest of related technologies do not make sense. In this sense, the ability to store and properly use data will be the basic element for of all the other technologies available to the different actors in the legal sector and their clients. Next, in order of importance, cybersecurity is fundamental due to the need to invest heavily and constantly to reduce the risk associated with seeing compromised sensitive data (both in a reputational and contingent way).

Third, we highlight the 'e-discovery' services that, as they become more widespread, should allow us to recover the profitability and quality of the due diligence processes. Likewise, machine learning stands out and, finally, blockchain, whose potential for disruption in the legal sector is unmatched, but which surely still requires greater dissemination and understanding in order to gain the trust and interest of the legal sector and your customers."
