
Biography and experience
Xavier Costa is a Partner at RocaJunyent and Co-Head of the firm’s International Department. He advises foreign investors, multinational groups and international funds on the execution of complex M&A, private equity and corporate transactions in Spain.
Based in Barcelona, Xavier is frequently appointed as lead Spanish counsel in cross-border transactions, where he coordinates local execution and acts as the key interface with international legal and deal teams. He regularly assists clients in navigating Spanish legal, regulatory and transactional frameworks within multi-jurisdictional deals.
With more than 20 years of experience, his practice focuses on cross-border acquisitions, joint ventures and corporate reorganisations. He advises on deal structuring, negotiation and execution in Spain, often working closely with international counsel and financial advisors. His approach is strongly execution-driven, with particular attention to risk allocation, timing and delivering workable solutions in complex transaction environments.
Xavier has developed a strong track record advising US and other international clients investing into Spain, and is regularly trusted by international law firms and corporates to handle the Spanish aspects of transactions where local execution is critical.
His international background enables him to bridge Spanish legal frameworks with the expectations and working methods of global investors, ensuring alignment across jurisdictions and smooth deal execution.
He is recognised by Legal 500 and Best Lawyers in Spain for Corporate/M&A. Xavier is also the exclusive Spain contributor to the Legal 500 Comparative Guide “Investing in”. He has completed executive education in negotiation and mediation at Harvard Law School.
Xavier is a member of the International Bar Association (IBA), and the International Association of Young Lawyers (AIJA), which he served as President in 2018–2019.
