VI National Aggregates Congress

From 27 to 28 May, the VI National Aggregates Congress organised by the Aggregates Federation (FdA) was held in Oviedo with the main slogan "We contribute to the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals", and in which the main challenges and opportunities for the sector were discussed, how to face them and prepare to grow and be more competitive, and how to combine sustainable development and business growth. The aggregates sector generates 46% of total employment in the national mining sector and accounts for 66% of the mining operations.

The strategic and essential value of aggregates for our daily lives and for the European Union to achieve its climate neutrality objectives set out in the 'Fit for 55' package drawn up by the European Commission, which aims to reduce pollutant emissions into the atmosphere by 55% by 2030 compared to those emitted in Europe in 1990, was highlighted. The role of all building materials was also highlighted and the fact that they all face an extraordinary environmental challenge, as well as the commitment to sustainable development and the application of the best environmental, climate neutrality, circular economy, product quality and safety standards, among others.

The occasion was used to present the Aggregates 2030 Strategic Plan, which is a sectoral roadmap whose central axes are the adaptation of the sector to the policies derived from the European Green Pact and the increase in the profitability of companies, but which also takes into consideration a series of adjustments to address the current turbulent situation of inflation and the generalised increase in energy costs and other supplies.

Within the framework of the Congress, Roser Puig presented a communication on the end of waste status and recycled aggregates, in which she analysed the recent case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union on this matter.
